Bio Picture Tim Bakker
Music Director; Piano/Vocal Instructor

Tim Bakker is a musician, singer, music director, songwriter, producer and educator. He grew up in South Africa and moved to the United States in 2005. He holds a music degree in performance. He initially started out in classical music, performing in symphony orchestras (woodwinds), but found his way into contemporary music as a singer and music director, and eventually into producing. Tim has 17 years of experience in LIVE performances and studio recording sessions on vocals, piano, flute and saxophone. He has worked in South Africa, USA, Israel and United Kingdom as a music director, producer and performer, and has travelled to 16 countries on 5 continents, for mostly music related adventures. He is featured on several recordings. Tim has a passion to transfer knowledge and skill and to equip people on multiple levels, in music and in life. He currently also serves as the Music Director at RiverCity Church in Richmond's West End.

Bio Picture Andrew Rohlk
Guitar and Vocal Instructor; House Band Director

Andrew Rohlk's first serious experience playing music was in middle and high school concert band, jazz band, and marching band. He was awarded the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award at James River High School and began composing original songs at 15. Andrew has been in several bands since then as a vocalist as well as both a lead and rhythm guitarist. He has played at national venues and toured regionally. Andrew has also opened for a number of artists most notable of which is Ingrid Michaelson with his solo singer-songwriter project. Andrew was a member of Low Key Co-Ed A cappella while attending James Madison University where he studied Elementary Education and refined an ear for harmony, blend, and overall vocal technique.

Bio Picture Mike Souder
Music Instructor (Guitar/Bass/Intro Piano)

Mike Souder started with guitar at age 12 inspired by the Beatles. Has extensive experience performing, teaching, and recording for many years including 6 years as Music Director at a local church in Richmond. Also taught an after school program at X-Zone Lifespring in Midlothian.  Instrument Skills: Advanced guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums, and percussion. Performing regularly with blues bands Tough Deal and Blues Flash as well as in Cloverhill Assembly of God church services.

Bio Picture CJ Alicea-Semanatte
Drum Instructor

CJ got his start in music playing bass in middle school, but shifted his focus to drums when he started playing snare drum for Hermitage High School's drumline. After high school, he went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from VCU in music performance: jazz studies with a focus on drum set. During college, CJ became a member of Virginia's Street Drum Corps: Blood Drums, which was awarded Percussive Ensemble of the Year in 2012 by DRUM magazine. Now, he works as an instructor/mentor at the YMCA teaching drums beginner piano, guitar, bass, and ukulele.  He currently plays as an accompanist at the VCU School of Dance, and performs around town in a variety of styles of music including rock, jazz, funk, R&B, hip hop, flamenco and salsa with several different groups.  CJ is stoked to be a part of the School of Rock family.

Bio Picture John Anderson
Music Instructor

My name is John Anderson and I teach guitar, beginning vocals, and beginning keyboard here at School of Rock.  I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2012 with emphasis in Guitar Performance, Jazz Composition, and Classical Composition.  Since then, I’ve been teaching beginning keyboard, voice, and guitar part time at Harrison Music and I’m very eager to begin teaching here at School of Rock. 

Bio Picture Eric Bandy
Drum Instructor

     Eric began playing drums at the age of 11. Since then he has played many lives shows in and around the Richmond area with his original band. They wrote their own songs and performed with acts such as Jenny Owen Youngs, Terrible Things, RVA locals Against Grace, and Mae.  

      He attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood California where he focused on live performance techniques, how to work with a band, and different styles of music. His favorite styles of music include classic rock, hard rock, and blues.


     Once graduating, Eric returned to Richmond to continue his musical journey. Currently, Eric is happy to be instructing at the School of Rock Short Pump and has become a member of local favorite The Jim O’Ferrell Band as their new drummer.


     Eric is very passionate about playing drums and loves sharing his knowledge of the instrument with anyone who is interested to learn. He believes that you can never stop learning when it comes to your instrument and performing. 

Bio Picture Kenneth Hatton
Music instructor

K.C Hatton is a guitarist with 20 years of performing experience. He began teaching in 2001 while studying jazz and classical guitar and jazz piano at Shenandoah University, where he majored in commercial music. He has recorded and performed with various  rock, jazz,fusion and musical theater groups, and has  songwriting credits with ASCAP. His experience includes touring the United States, Canada, and Japan performing at events such as the Vans Warped Tour, punkspring and the South by Southwest festival

Bio Picture Mark Henderson
Drum Instructor

Mark Henderson received his formal training in orchestral, marching, and jazz percussion from the James Madison University.  His work since has been primarily focused on the drum kit, through performing, recording, & teaching all over Virginia.  In 2006, music led him to Richmond, where he presently continues to work extensively on his craft.  With over 25 years of performing experience, you can find Mark performing with a variety of projects in and around the Richmond area, covering many genres that include jazz, rock, folk, kids’ music, country, funk, hip hop, and R&B.
